Formal recognition of gender
For the vast majority, gender can be recovered through spelling (written form) and/or sounding (oral form).
Spelling (feminine nouns ending in e)
Sound (masculine nouns end with a vowel sound where as feminine nouns end with a consonantal sound or final [e] sound)
Non-formal recognition of gender
